Having experienced the same problem with my first E Niro, this is the second Niro EV that I have owned with the same concern.

In my experience, the only way to fix this is to lock the car and step away from it, making sure the key is not within reach. After 15 minutes, unlock the door and start the car. This method has worked every time.

I contacted Kia support multiple times about a solution to this issue, but they were unable to assist.
This is something I'm aware of happening on a variety of other EV models as well.

PLEASE ASSIST!

Using the reverse gear or pressing the accelerator too quickly after starting the engine can cause this. Press and hold the Start button for a few seconds before you choose the gear.

Like the so-called Zombie mode, this one sounds familiar. In March 2023, a software update was released to address this issue.
As far as I can recall, the dealer was the one who had to do it. I already got the update installed on my 2023 Kia Niro EV.

Not having your foot on the brake when you push Start or not waiting for the Ready light to show before removing the brake are two other conceivable causes of this.

If this has happened to other vehicles, it might be because you hit the start button too quickly without depressing the brakes enough.
