Just now, two weeks after getting my 2023 C300, I checked the tyre sizes and was shocked to learn that the front tires are 225/40/R19 and the rear tires are 255/35/R19! Is this the norm, pardon me?

Just like each other day. A lot of cars came with a "staggered" arrangement.

Has the manual been read by you? You can find the factory-available wheel and tyre size range there.

Both the front and rear of my E Class have 265 section tires.

Since Mercedes vehicles are rear-wheel drive and typically have higher torque than competitors, large tires are necessary for traction, even on 2.1 diesel engines and similar vehicles.

Sure thing.

Furthermore, the back wheels are noticeably broader than the front ones.

Wheel and tyre sizes should be verified in the vehicle manual.
