Hello everyone! I have just finished setting up a brand new cooling system. I turned it off at 212 degrees after a few test drives since it wouldn't stop heating up. My first thought is that the thermostat is malfunctioning, but how likely is that? In my experience, Reins are often quite sturdy, so I decided to install one. Is it better to start by installing a new thermostat?
I should also take into account two things that could be influencing my view in this case.
One, I became used to seeing temperatures of 188–195–199 more frequently because the old thermostat was slightly ajar. So, I'm uncertain if 212+ is considered typical for these.
212 is essentially a burnt head gasket and 220 is a deformed head; these are the main issues I've encountered with Land Rovers in my experience with the Discovery 2.
Oops, I filled the system with hoover (-20 psi, maintained steady for a few minutes, no leaks), so I doubt it's connected to air trapped anywhere.

In contrast to 100c, which is considered idling on a hot day, these run cool. Between 90 to 94 degrees Celsius commonly

Can you tell me if your MY's radiator fan has a matching multi-pin connector?
Does that mean you didn't think to reconnect it?

From where do you receive the most up-to-date temp database? If it's possible for me to do it on my 2012, I'll check to see if the cooling system is functioning properly so that we may use it as a benchmark for the future.

Thank you. Now it's time for the follow-up. Since I vacuumed the system, I thought bleeding it wouldn't be necessary. I replaced every single part of the cooling system, so maybe that's true for a simple drain and refill. Pump, radiator, hoses, thermo, heater hoses, gearbox oil cooler and everything else imaginable. Consequently, air was almost certainly trapped in there somewhere.
So, I followed the instructions and went for a lengthy drive. The good news is that everything is back to the normal 185-195 range.
