Have you checked with ChatGPT? I was wondering if the new car will have a different license plate since March 1st is a Sunday.

This is something I used to be fairly knowledgeable in, but my knowledge has gotten a little outdated. A lot of steps are involved in the registration process. The procedure can only be finalised after the buyer's information are known, which occurs when a "dealer" initially acquires a vehicle in the UK. Even still, they are hesitant to move forward with the last step until they are very certain you are purchasing the vehicle; otherwise, they would have to unregister it, which is something they can do, but it's a hassle.
Day of collection is the standard in most circumstances. You shouldn't be surprised if the car isn't registered a few days before you get it when you buy a new one. From what I understand, they can probably move the date forward to the day it's collected. regarding this aspect I am uncertain.
There is a menu of license plates from which the dealer can choose when the pre-reg procedure begins. When the date of the plate change approaches, they choose a plate from either the before or after pool, depending on when they want to finish the operation. The dealer or Tesla knows the plate number days or weeks before you take possession of the vehicle. It takes time for them to be manufactured.

Is it too much to ask Tesla to provide you the license plate when you pick up a car? then I could respond to your question. Just let them know that you'll need it to get insurance.
I had to contact my insurance company to get a new license plate since, when I went to pick up my new Tesla at the dealership, it wasn't the one I had been informed it would be.

In the "First Registered" field of the V5, you can see the exact date of collection, which is December 19, 2025, for our "stock" yet "new" 2025 Model 3.

Since my vehicle was a "in stock" item, the VIN and actual plate number were assigned more than ten days prior to collection.

The automobile was officially registered with the DVLA on the day you picked it up, but they had the option to choose the plate weeks earlier, even though it wasn't actually assigned to the car until December 19th. So, I see. It might have been replaced at any stage up until that point. Not all dealers use the DVLA's allocation system; Tesla is one of them. Some dealers will display customers a range of license plates and let them choose the one they desire. The region code and year code will usually be the same on all of them, so for example, you might be stuck with "BJ69" if it's the current set.

My plate would be immediately placed up for sale if it started with BJ69.

Alternatively, it might be used on my car.

Thanks to luck, I got BT69. All of the BJs in that area had already departed by that point. I was apprehensive that Tesla would end up with all of them since most dealers presumably rejected them (which they can do), but I figured they probably didn't care.

Brought it to my attention; it sounded like a reasonable evening.
