Hi

Need some advice, please. Last week, my 2015 5 series lost all gear options and entered limp mode. Keep getting the "drivetrain malfunction" message. Got it into drive, but it chugged along at 5 mph with no power from the engine, as if the clutch were barely biting.

The main dealer has been insolent and has recommended a brand-new gearbox costing £10k as a remedy. I will avoid that choice at all costs. Throughout my time as its owner, the car has never broken down on me. I did receive an alert on my app indicating that the starter battery life is running low and needs to be replaced. While the vehicle was with the primary dealer, something occurred. Is this going to be sufficient to cause the box to display an error?

How about we begin? Does anyone have a clue? Your assistance or recommendation is much valued.

Much obliged.

It should begin with a code scan to determine the logged information, and then proceed accordingly.

I want to acquire it from the primary dealer tomorrow and proceed accordingly. They only suggested changing the gearbox without providing any issue codes.

Since you've already paid to have the issues checked, you should insist on receiving the codes.

On both occasions that I have enquired, I have been ignored. Prior to receiving the results, I may opt to forego paying for the diagnostics. The price tag was hefty at £280.

Just stating to change the gearbox without providing any justification for that diagnosis is completely nonsensical.

Everything you desire is yours to keep once you've paid for it.
The number of miles the vehicle has accumulated would be helpful as well.

Only members of the forum have firsthand experience with dealerships; in my own experiences, customers are always handled extremely well, shown various payment plans and new car options, etc., but they simply do not know anything about cars and allow the salespeople to explain everything to them.Purchase a vehicle, swap it out when the warranty expires—oh, how I despise dealerships.
