My automobile was repaired by Mercedes Benz of Chesterfield, and I was wondering if you could give me some advice on what to do next.
Last Monday, the 18th, the appointment to replace the oil cooler and seals was scheduled for the automobile.

I picked up the vehicle, but the engine died after only 40 minutes of driving.
The engine won't turn over, and they informed me yesterday that the oil filter had metal particles.
You can tell I'm worried about their intentions if they try to avoid fixing or replacing the engine.

Almost surely, they will attempt to avoid it. The day following a service, our 1000-mile Volkswagen Golf suddenly stopped responding. It was a complete coincidence. This is unrelated to our situation; the oil pump drive snapped.
However, before dismantling it and attempting to conceal the evidence, you should get the impartial opinion of a competent expert. If it were them, I hope they'll play ball and admit it so they can avoid future embarrassment. What is the mileage? Previous work experience?

The vehicle has a complete service history and 124,000 miles on the odometer, and it has been mechanically flawless for the three years that I've had it. However, when they attempt to deny responsibility, I'm not sure what to say.

There will be a cost, but I believe you'll have to take your automobile out of their possession (if they have it) and have an outside party handle it. They intend to use the mileage as evidence. At that age, cars may and often do break down.

They took it up immediately last Friday to fix it; I'll have to wait to hear how it turns out, but it didn't sound good when I got it (lack of power, burbling). 👎

The bearing has likely been spun. On occasion, that occurs following an oil change.....

Their culpability is "probably" not at play here

There has been no oil change, engine strip, oil cooler or seal replacement.
