Yeah, you should be careful with adblue or use gasser instead :)

For Adblue, the problem begins at temperatures below -11C, when the liquid begins to freeze. The mechanism does indeed turn on the warmth while the car is running and turns it off when it comes to a stop. Unfortunately, problems do arise, such as a faulty pump or nozzle, components broken by frozen liquid, a malfunctioning level or quality sensor, and, all too frequently, the inability to find a replacement part and the necessity of a substantial assembly to complete the repair. Finally, there are nox sensors, which also experience ageing and malfunctions. And it's not uncommon for the other, working sensor to be recorded as failing after a new one is inserted when one fails. I have no idea if they have fixed this ridiculous feature in the software that compares sensors. Oh, and changing sensors requires coding. "Money pit" is the shortened version.

It does sound a little bleak, doesn't it?

Somewhat more recent and refined diesel would be great if I can stay with it. I suppose I should reconsider my position.

I was wondering whether you could recommend any years or models that would be good to consider for petrol. From what I can see, the price range starts at E250 and goes up to more recent models like e300, e43, e63, etc., all of which are beyond my means.

An increase of 265 bhp and 620 Nm was made to the 350CDi in 2012. My recollection has become cloudy over the years, but I believe they upgraded to the 7g+ g/box simultaneously. The 265 was not only a remap, as many believe; there were several improvements to the internal engine and feeding. From what I understand, the AdBlue was introduced with the my2014 redesign, which was dubbed BlueTec.

Older models that weren't Adblue were referred to as BlueEfficiency; they had BlueEfficiency badges at first, but I believe they were cropped off the ones that came before the facelift.

Since I purchased a new Coupé at the time and provided extensive information about it, I can say with certainty that the V6s (not the 4-cyls) shared the Sport's sports suspension, but even in SE trim, the wheels were 17" instead of 18" and the discs were not cross-drilled. I don't know for sure, but the saloons could be the same.

Right now, a 265 horsepower engine would be my pick—not an AdBlue BlueTec, though. Even though it's a little dated, you can still find some decent ones. Condition, among other things, would sway my selection more than SE or Sport trim, unless the latter was an absolute must-have.

In the UK, don't all 265 horses come with emergency blinkers?
Seems like the ones before the facelift didn't, though.

Badges 'dropping,' not cripped, is one of my previous statements that I am unable to change. Typo involving a fat finger

Thanks for bringing that up; it looks like I'll be staying away from AdBlue from now on. Since I posted, I've had conversations with several mechanic friends, and they've all said the same thing. Looking at some S212S that I've spotted in the area. Even the 2013 vehicles look exactly like my 2009 vehicle, so I'm a little let down by the interior's extreme antiquity. Although I typically lean towards the sport/AMG line, I am open to considering other trim levels if a good one becomes available. The main things to consider are the service history, condition, and mileage.

I was hoping to find something a bit more recent because I intend to keep it for at least another four or five years. It would appear that there are essentially no used estate versions of the e350, e400, or e450 petrol alternatives available. That leaves the e43 as the sole remaining petrol choice, but it comes with the hefty AMG tax attached to it.

Possibly compelled to consider a BMW...

Launched within a few years of each other and receiving only minor revisions for the facelift, the 204 and the E 212 were likely to share many similarities. There were major redesigns with the 213 body, but I still love the 212 inside, especially the FL trim, which has a more luxurious steering wheel and other upgrades. The 213 is too flimsy and plasticky for my taste, but an E43 is still in my future!
