One issue with shocks is that a MOT report would only be filed in the event of very evident oil leakage.

At around 8 years old and 110k miles, I changed the shocks on an earlier E92.

At this point, unless it has already been done, I would assume that the suspension needs refreshing. Those original shocks are definitely not in excellent functioning condition. All four shocks with brackets and, if not the front control arms, then at least one of those bushes has to be broken.

You should not be discouraged from sourcing and having installed a non-MB provided part simply because the dealer refuses to do so. Within 10 days, you have the option to come back for a second opinion or seek out an alternative MOT. These parts are frequently supplied by Lemforder as the original ...

On rare occasions, the CLK would malfunction. The kind guy from Autoglass came back with his magic laptop after installing a new windscreen and corrected it. When this happened before, I found that giving the screen a thorough cleaning helped.
