I bought an Apple CarPlay adaptor that basically swaps out the sat nav unit, but no matter what I do, no matter where I look, it never appears in the glove box.
Think you know where it could be?
A 2012 E350 estate equipped with a head unit that is NTG4.5.

There are two versions of the NTG4.5, therefore it's possible you may have purchased the incorrect gadget.

You should get the version that corresponds to your specific vehicle's Becker navigation system or pre-wiring kit if it is equipped with either.
2. The base unit (Audio 20?!), or Command, will be used in the absence of the Becker navigation system. for example)—in this instance, you'll have to get the device that tucks neatly beneath your screen and wires up to the head unit.

EDIT: this website will provide you with the whole specifications of your vehicle if you input your VIN

The same as before.

Choose between the Audio20 NTG4.5, which features a 5.8-inch display and a Becker Map Pilot GPS processor in the glove box, or the COMAND NTG4.5, which has an internal HDD navigation system and a larger, higher-resolution 7-inch screen. Both units are standard in your facelift vehicle.

If your vehicle is equipped with Audio20 NTG4.5 with Becker Map Pilot, you may verify this by checking the datacard. On the other hand, if you notice a notification reading "Do not let COMAND distract you..." or "Do not let the SYSTEM distract you...." on the starting screen, this indicates that your vehicle is equipped with COMAND NTG4.5.

There are three courses of action you can take with Apple CarPlay (and Android Auto).

A brand new 10.25" screen with an integrated Android infotainment system is the first available option. This is only one example among several models:

Audio20 and COMAND are both compatible with this.

An additional device, available as Option 2, can be attached to your current NT4.5 unit to enable Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Choose between the Integrated Automotive module, manufactured in the UK, or one of the numerous comparable units sold on sites like AliExpress or eBay. This is the British-made device:

Yes, it is compatible with both Audio20 and COMAND.

The third alternative, a GPS processor, would supplant the Becker Map Pilot device. This is only one example among several models

Audio20 is the only device that will be compatible with this; COMAND is non-compliant.
