Does it need to be physically blanked or can the N57 Swirl Flap Delete simply be mapped out?

Good day,
No matter how many postings I read, I still haven't found an answer that really helps.
Error code 23cxxxx something is indicating that my 640d N57 is experiencing swirl flap issues.
The local indy who has helped me in the past has given me a quote of £500 to blank them out, but I'm not happy with the pricing because it looks exorbitant and comes out as a round figure when you're swamped.
In any case, I've been getting around with it in that state since the mistake essentially disables the turbos. Despite using somewhat more juice, it's perfectly functional.
When you apply BimmerLink while you're driving, the problem code disappears and power returns to normal.
Why not just map it out instead of physically blanking it if it can be cleared in this way? Is there anyone who can confirm this? Alternatively, could you please tell me about the going rate?
The mileage is 130k, and it's over 10 years old. I had a good carbon clean and vacuum tubes done approximately 30,000 miles ago, and it has given me a couple of larger bills recently.
