2016 BMW 3 Series F31 - Starting and Operating

Greetings everyone!
I just bought a 2016 F31. I am still in the midst of the initial excitement of buying my first BMW, even though I have been driving it for less than two weeks.

The absence of functionality from the Start\Stop button is the first problem that has caught my attention. As an example, hop in the car, hit the start button, and everything appears to be working OK; nevertheless, the start/stop button that sits above the engine start button is not activated. Assuming I maintain a speed of up to an hour, and I come to a complete stop with the clutch released and my foot firmly planted on the brake pedal, the sign on the dashboard display will show the start/stop symbol, with a diagonal line running across it. The engine cannot be turned off unless all the necessary requirements are satisfied.

Could you just give me some pointers or tell me what to search for?

I am grateful.

The problem is either with the battery or the brake vacuum sensor; nevertheless, I would not be overly worried if the stop-start function were to fail, since this would just lead to more wear and tear (timing chains hate it). To find out what's preventing it, run a code scan.

Be sure to check the battery, as it may disappoint you if it's not strong enough.

Thanks for the advice on how to prolong the life of important engine parts. Whatever it is, I'm wondering what it is since I can see how it may be both interesting and unpleasant.

Are there any scan tools that you can suggest?

Keep in mind that I turned the engine down to its lowest temperature setting, so it does swing somewhat slowly. I wasn't sure whether this was typical because this was my first experience with the vehicle.

Probably the previous owner did what a lot of people do and disabled the start/stop mechanism.

..Above 80% SOC is what I'd recommend.
Check its functionality by charging it to full capacity using a smart charger.

Nevertheless, you should see it as a blessing. I set mine to stay off until I click the button again. In exchange for a few pence, it destroys the battery, starter motor, and chain.
