Here is my 69 Plate ZS:
Stuff the boot with something. Returns to start the vehicle for a drive. Car door won't open. I got in by using the manual key. Refusing to begin. The 'gear change' had three lights that came on. A, B, and R
I would greatly appreciate any recommendations.

The ZS won't unlock with any of the three gearbox lights turned on.

You should be able to test it with a multimeter; it should be 12.6V or higher.
It is highly recommended to replace the 12V battery if you are still using the original one after 7 years, as this is a known error caused by failing batteries.
I think AGM batteries are more reliable and long-lasting, so they're a better option if you intend to keep the car for longer than four or five years. For a reasonable like-for-like, albeit potentially more expensive, option, consider the Bosch S5A05; alternatively, consider the Varta or Yuasa.

Last nite, I checked. the voltage is 7 volts 
. At 5.4 volts this morning, I'm assuming the extra drain is from the three "gear selection" lights.
After being left unused for four days, the car was last driven on Wednesday. I am merely worried that a new drain problem has arisen.
The "Radio initialising" problem has occurred three times in the past two months. After looking into it, it appears that the radio module is the culprit. I experienced a power outage as well, but it went away after a cycle of sleep.

Pretend the boot wasn't partially closed, allowing the light to drain the battery?
