AMG changes gears

Is it typical for AMG shifts to be particularly forceful while going from first to second gear?
Although my CLS with the 7G box ran smoothly, I've found that the 9G in my E43 seems like it's attempting to strangle me unless I'm quite light-footed! Is that typical for these, or is a reset necessary?

Is that set to comfort mode as well? Now might be the time to service the gearbox if it hasn't been done yet.

Comfort isn't as terrible. The gearbox servicing should probably be taken care of soon anyhow.

Resetting it in STAR shouldn't require any adjustments unless you've already had work done and are about to undergo a relearning cycle.
No amount of tapping your head while massaging your stomach or turning the ignition to position 4.5, as some online guides have you believe, will truly reset your device.

Starting from a cold start and while in Sport or Sport+, I noticed that the gearshift is a bit rough. That disappears when you put it on Comfort mode.
After getting warmed up, there is absolutely zero roughness in any gearbox mode.
Approximately 2,000 miles ago, I had my 9G gearbox serviced.

Looking back, I remember that my E53 was tuned to jolt when shifting into Sport Plus gears on purpose so that it felt more athletic. In contrast to the 63's wet clutch, which alters the transmission's behaviour, that 9-speed torque converter is likely very identical to the 43 but modified to work with the hybrid system. The 63 doesn't jolt me in any way, although shifting from first to second gear in S+ can be a little difficult when it's cold.

If I am incredibly deft with the accelerator, like a feather, then it's not too bad.

As for cold-weather low-down shifts, I've had those too, but I'm not too worried about it because everything is fine as the oil heats up. In my 2007 W211 E320CDI, I had a similar problem; switching from second to first gear was a bit of a shock at times, but that was only when the car was cold. I simply learnt to live with it for 16 years because Gearbox was repaired periodically and software was updated.
