My 2017 Evoque diesel is a 2 litre model.

Is the engine driven by a belt or a chain?


At what point is it recommended to change the drive?

Altering the timing chains on your 2017 Evoque comes down to whether or not it rattles, has a lot of miles on it, hasn't had maintenance, etc.

With so little data available, everyone on this owners forum is just guessing.

My 2017 Evoque is a diesel automatic with 53,400 miles on the clock. It runs smoothly with no draughts or rattles and has a complete record of service.

Premature chain failure has been discussed on this site, and my LR independent specialist informed me that timing chains can run up to 18,000 miles without raising the jeepers.

I had mine replaced with a 17-model after about 25,000 miles, more for peace of mind than to risk a $10,000 repair price in the event of a failure, though I'm sure many have gone for much longer without problems.


From the other hand, if your chain doesn't have any rattles or other problems, you might be among the fortunate few whose chains last longer thanks to regular servicing or, at the very least, oil and filter changes using recommended oils.

Ours had 26k miles, was two years old, had one owner before us, and was FSH when we got it replaced.
