Greetings, all!
For some reason, the ability for the doors to lock when I turn off the engine and unlock when I put the vehicle in park is something I've always wished for in my 2021 Toyota C-HR.
Using a Bluetooth connection and a common OBD-II adapter (like the vLinker FD+ or MC+), I developed a small Android background service named AutoLock that takes care of door locks automatically, without requiring you to have your screen on.
Access to the Closed Beta:
I am offering free early beta access to test compatibility across various Toyota hybrid models and production years before the official public release on Google Play. Thank you in advance for your feedback if you are the proud owner of an OBD-II adapter and drive a hybrid vehicle (C-HR, Corolla, Yaris, Prius, RAV4, etc.).
Procedure for testing:
1. Commit to participating in the ninVibes Testers - Google Groups study.
2. You can download the app from Google Play at this link: https://play.google.com/store/apps/deta ... o.autolock. Alternatively, you can sign in with your Google Account online.
Please be informed that I have also created HybridDash Pro, which includes the automatic door locking feature, for those who are interested in hybrid telemetry on Android Auto. This includes real-time consumption in km/l, traction battery state of charge, temperatures, and EV ratio. This is a one-time 9.99 EUR project that is still in its early stages and was documented on ninVibes. It was built on my C-HR.
Do try it out and get back to me if you have any questions about adapter compatibility.
You’re only seeing the surface.

Locking and unlocking are as easy as sending a few commands over the CAN bus.
The extra security features that my C-HR locks when I drive off and unlocks when I turn off the ignition are features that I requested the installer to activate.
Additionally, if a passenger gets out, it will relock the opened door the next time I drive off.

From 2004 to 2013, I owned a Mazda MX-3 that had a similar security feature, and it was a lifesaver.
For some reason, I don't see this standard in most new cars.

Quite a few automakers do.
I've driven Fords and Peugeots that had this feature, and it's up to the owner to turn it on.
This is also true of my 2025 work-issued Toyota Proace, which is actually a Peugeot disguised.

You can get an OBD door autolock plug for the Gen 1 CHR on AliExpress for a long time; all you have to do is plug it in and it will start working.
