The new laws go into effect in April 2026, and I recently found out that my 2002 330ci would cost £760 to tax.
I suppose this is the end for the car, huh?
Is this affecting anyone else?
You’re only seeing the surface.

Based on their density of 244 g/km, they are unquestionably band K, costing £760. Attempting this on a 2001 vehicle in retrospect is absurd!

Also, and this is equally discouraging, I'm thinking about leasing a twin cab 4x4 hybrid electric pickup for an employee who used to drive skylines when he was younger. With 2.7 tone, it goes from zero to one hundred in under five seconds, has eleven speakers for stereo sound, and is as silent inside as a mouse. 60K AU.
as well as here I was considering giving the trusty '93 a tune and four pot callipers.

So many nice automobiles will end up in the scrapyard because of that; it's a tragedy.

Indeed, a couple of the vehicles I've been considering have recently entered the high tax band; this includes the E9X M models, which have been in this category for some time and date back to 2010.
Just like traffic penalties, it's populous BS that is simple to plug into the masses. On 7 litres per hundred, my 2010 3-liter dirty-ol diesel goes around. In 2016, the wife's 1.5-liter gasoline hybrid clocked in at 5 litres per hundred. My vehicle, a 2013 13-liter, but it may very well be a 2025 50-liter or 100-liter. Transportation via air, rail, sea, and truck doesn't appear to be very active. Absolutely not in this part of Australia.
