The evidence certainly points to an injector problem. As is typical with certain OM651s, it is likely only an issue with the injector seal.

At worst, a replacement injector would be required.

Even a little hole in the boost pipe can release black smoke and cause a little drop in power, but I haven't personally encountered that. Problems might arise if the dpf and egr have been changed.

The later arms with the permanent joints are compatible with the older vehicles, but the other way around, the disc clearance is either extremely tight or nonexistent, so it's safe to say that they're backwards compatible.

It was plagiarised from an American forum. The dealership has been my best bet recently, but I still haven't located a dependable location to get the car serviced.
I have not personally verified compression. While it was being diagnosed, I don't know if the dealer examined this.

The vehicle seems to apply load and cut frequently as it bounces back and forth under acceleration. My best attempt at describing that

Twenty thousand isn't a huge deal if it's just had one oil change; what worries me is the accumulation of sludge that occurs as the mileage increases to twenty thousand every oil change.
